Clothing.

Thick Is Real
Acceptance is the beginning of emotional renewal.

Clothing. Lets talk about the ¨No you can´t wear that short with those stretch marks¨ or the ¨You have a lot of belly rolls, you can´t wear that tight dress.

Thick women have to think twice about what they are wearing. We often consider if someone else will be comfortable with me wearing a tight dress or a short. Embracing your body comes with being comfortable with what you are wearing. It is important to understand that wearing whatever you want does not mean going out of the house half naked screaming ¨I am comfortable with what I am wearing!!¨(well you will be half naked anyway). Clothes are important in boosting one´s confidence and that can only happen if you are comfortable in the clothes you are wearing.

Clothes also define who you are and what you want to be seen as. In most cases I am afraid to wear tight clothing because I am afraid of how they will expose my body. This should not be the case. Wear what you want and walk down the street knowing that being thick does not mean you should not wear certain clothes, it´s about wearing those clothes with confidence.

Beauty 1.2

Thick Is Real.
Acceptance is the beginning of emotional renewal.

Beauty. I feel the need to speak about beauty again. In most cases I have this evil voice that screams ¨UGLY!!!¨ every time I look in the mirror. And it´s not something I think about, it comes from all the stereotypical views of what beauty is that keep reminding about how I am not a slim model form a magazine. It´s those small things that count and add up to make a person beautiful. Especially thick women. Beauty also speaks to identity. Who you are and what you believe in will show on the outside. That makes you beautiful.

We speak about embracing and accepting our bodies but what specific things do I need to do in order to embrace my body? Breaking away from what society shaped my mind to believe about beauty takes courage and a great shift in one´s mindset. Here are some few tips from The Positivity Blog on how to build self esteem:

1.Take 2 minutes self appreciation.
2.Write down 3 things in the evening that you can appreciate about yourself.
3.Be kinder to other people.
4.Spend more time with supportive people.

Overall beauty is not defined by one´s shape, size or body type but it is about what is on the inside. When social media fails to embrace the beauty of thick women, it is the duty of thick women to see the beauty in those belly rolls, cellulite and stretch marks.

There is so much beauty inside one´s heart. Recognize that and you will realize that there´s definitely beauty in wearing a size bigger than size 26.

What Is Beauty?

THICK IS REAL
Acceptance is the beginning of emotional renewal.

I remember when I was 12 years old. I loved reading magazines and seeing all the size 26 models, I used to think when I reach the age 16, I would be skinny and tall and people will stop calling me the ugly big girl. After 16 and I am the total opposite!! Now this changed my perception on what beauty is because I had to start embracing my body so I may be renewed emotionally from all the name calling I had to deal with growing up. Beauty is not defined by the size or shape of one's body. Initially it is hard to believe our mothers when they say "you are to beautiful the way you are" but it is actually true.

What is beauty? It's definitely not what the society tells us it is. It's not about being skinny or having a hour glass shaped body. One's attributes, achievements and personality says a lot.

What is your take on thick women and what beauty is?
